HLTAID012

Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting 

Wollongong, Thirroul, Helensburgh, Shellharbour, Port Kembla & Corrimal

Students who complete this first aid course will develop the skills and knowledge required to deliver an effective first aid response for infants and children, in accordance with guidelines set by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other relevant national peak clinical bodies.

This unit is suitable for a range of workers in education and childcare environments who may be required to respond to first aid emergencies, including asthma and anaphylaxis situations.

It is designed for early childhood educators, school-age care staff, and professionals working in outside school hours care (OSHC) and vacation care programs throughout Wollongong and the wider Illawarra region.

Course delivery

This course is offered as a face-to-face course. Pre-course learning is required.

Course duration

  • For the Face to Face course - Minimum duration is 6.5 hours.

  • For the Online with face to face – Face to Face minimum duration is 60 minutes*.

Pre-requisites

There are no formal prerequisite units required for entry into this course. Learners will require English language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills.

Entry requirements

  • Learners undertaking the express course must have previously completed the HLTAID012 – Provide first aid in an education and care setting.

  • Learners will be required to provide a copy of their expiring Statement of Attainment on the day of their face-to-face course.

  • Learners must be able to complete 2 minutes of CPR on the floor with a manikin

 

Training requirements​

Face to face training consists of theory presentations and range of practical learning activities and scenarios.

Assessment requirements​

Assessment activities will include a knowledge test and practical assessments including CPR and First Aid techniques and completion of documentation. Students will also complete scenarios in a simulated environment.

Course renewal requirements​

The statement of attainment is valid for 3 years*.
*Please note that the CPR component of the training is valid for 12 months and should be updated annually.

Course delivery options

Online with Face to Face

Best suited to returning students or those comfortable with online learning.

  • Theory is completed online before attending a face-to-face practical assessment in Wollongong.

  • A computer and internet access are required, and some courses may include video assessment tasks requiring a smartphone or webcam.

  • The in-person session focuses on practical skills only, so students should arrive prepared with limited revision time available.

  • Re-assessment is available if required.

  • Available for public courses only through Wollongong First Aid Training.

Face to Face Training

All training and assessment is completed in person.

  • Best suited to first-time students or those who prefer structured support and trainer-led guidance.

  • Extended duration allows for more time with the trainer and interactive, hands-on learning.
