Paediatric First Aid Course

Our Non-Accredited Paediatric First Aid course provides parents, carers and professionals with the essential knowledge and practical skills to respond to emergencies involving babies and children. Through hands-on training and realistic scenarios, participants build the confidence to take appropriate action in critical situations and help protect the health and safety of the young people in their care.

Units of Competency

  • Parental anxiety and intuition: Understanding the emotional response of caring for children in emergencies and the importance of trusting your instincts

  • REACH program: Communication and assessment strategies for effectively managing children and distressed parents in emergency situations

  • Anatomical differences between adults and paediatrics: Key physiological differences that influence first aid treatment for infants and children

  • Choking and foreign body airway obstruction: Recognising and managing choking incidents in babies and children

  • Paediatric resuscitation and CPR: Hands-on training in CPR techniques, including modifications for infants and young children

  • Allergies and anaphylaxis: Identifying allergic reactions and administering first aid, including the use of auto-injectors such as EpiPens

  • Febrile convulsions and fever management: Understanding causes and providing appropriate first aid response for febrile seizures and high temperatures

  • Head injuries: Assessment and first aid management of head trauma in children

  • Fractures and dislocations: Recognising and responding to bone and joint injuries in paediatric patients

  • Wound care: Effective cleaning, dressing and management of cuts and injuries in children

  • Burns: Identifying burn severity and applying appropriate first aid treatment for paediatric burns

  • Bleeding control: Techniques for managing blood loss in infants and children

  • Gastroenteritis: Recognising symptoms and providing initial first aid care for gastrointestinal illness

  • Rashes: Identifying common childhood rashes and knowing when medical attention is required

  • Medication guidance: Safe administration considerations for medications in children

  • Support services: Accessing resources and support networks for caregivers during emergencies
